Vol 2 SCAMMELL PIONEER
TRMU20, TRMU30
Originally dating back to the late ’20s, the Pioneer was probably Britain’s earliest heavy tractor. It was originally designed for use in the oilfields of the Middle East, but was soon adopted by the British Army as a tank transporter. It was an enormously capable vehicle which, despite lacking front-wheel drive, possessed the ability to press on almost regardless of terrain. Sadly, unable to keep pace with increases in the weight of armoured fighting vehicles, it was rendered obsolete by the appearance of the American Diamond T in 1942.
