Description
Steam in the Welsh Landscape
Today, Wales is famous for the ‘Great Little Trains of Wales’ but at one time almost every corner of the principality echoed to the sound of steam. ‘Royal Scots’ thundered along the North Wales coast line on the ‘Irish Mail’ while gleaming ‘Britannias’ stormed out of Cardiff on Paddington expresses. In between these routes was the tangle of lines that served the Welsh valleys and a much larger rural, mountainous area where, on some of the more remote branches, just a handful of trains each day sufficed for the amount of traffic on offer. Using the best available images this album vividly recalls the twilight years of steam in the principality and, almost needless to say, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.
